JALON
JALON is advancing a new strategy to support the development of citizen-led energy community projects throughout Europe.
This approach emphasizes close collaboration with local stakeholders to implement these projects, acting as a tool for social innovation. It is particularly beneficial for rural areas, which often lack tailored legislation and risk being excluded from the energy transition.
Numerous barriers hinder the full potential of energy communities, especially in rural regions.

ATE
The Energy Transition Alliance structures its multiple projects into six vertical pillars, orientated towards strategic competitiveness and value creation. It covers the energy sector across the board, including energy communities and micro-grids, renewable-based generation, energy efficiency and transition in industrial, commercial and residential users, sustainable mobility and interconnection and sector-coupling infrastructures, namely electricity and gas networks.

AGERAR PLUS
The AGERAR Plus project addresses the lower investment in R&D in Spain and Portugal compared to the EU average, which hampers technology transfer from universities and research centers to the productive sector, affecting competitiveness and wealth creation.
Both countries rely heavily on external energy supplies and face challenges in integrating renewable energies, despite having significant wind and solar resources.
Given their shared wholesale electricity market, the project emphasizes the need for joint decision-making on electricity market policies, renewable energies, and microgrids to enhance energy integration and efficiency.

NEXOMAR
NEXOMAR aims to boost maritime logistics in the Alentejo-Algarve and Andalusia regions by enhancing the organizational and technological capacities of port logistics systems. Key goals include:
• Strengthening organizational and technological capacities in port areas to promote internationalization and increase the external presence of logistics and production companies.
• Improving the competitiveness of industrial companies in the Euroregion by enhancing their performance in logistics and production.
• Addressing challenges from the globalization of supply chains to improve overall competitiveness abroad.

AGROVOLTEP
AGROVOLTEP addresses the multiple challenges faced by rural areas impacting agriculture, such as land abandonment, rising energy costs, climate change, and competition for land use.
The spread of solar farms often reduces available agricultural land, worsening issues like soil desertification. Combining solar energy production with agriculture could meet global electricity demand using just 1% of agricultural land.
Given the high solar exposure in regions like Alentejo and Extremadura, agrovoltaics is essential for adapting agricultural practices.

AURORA
Approximately 7,000 citizens across five locations in Denmark, England, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, will join forces to become ‘Near-zero emission’ citizens.
As ‘citizen scientists’, these communities will also crowd-fund photovoltaic facilities locally to produce a total of ca. 1 megawatt of renewable energy through the deployment of local Renewable Energy Communities.
